Metallica staging festival in Detroit for 2013

Metallica are taking their new music festival to Detroit, Michigan next year (13) after launching it in New Jersey over the summer.

The metal stars headlined both nights of the inaugural Orion Music + More event, performing alongside the Arctic Monkeys, Avenged Sevenfold and Modest Mouse.

Now they have announced plans to take the show west to Detroit on June 8 and 9.

Drummer Lars Ulrich previously revealed the band had been plotting its own festival for some time, saying, "We've had the idea of doing our own lifestyle festival with lots of diverse music and fun and games for years. Finally this year all the practical ducks lined up in a row, and we are beyond psyched to bring Orion to our fans, friends and the curious."

The line-up for the 2013 gigs will be unveiled in February.
