HOLLIS NH- A group of children are learning the true meaning of the holiday as they speared headed a campaign to give back this holiday and donate their would be gifts to those in need.
It all started when a group of young girls that all happened to be celebrating their 7th birthday this month, decided they’d rather give up their presents and see them go to children who are less fortunate this time of year.
The plan then went from six families banning together in helping out those in need to an entire Frist grade class joining in and helping those in need.
Once it was realized how many people wanted to help, the girls and their mothers planned a holiday party held Friday night where children and their families could bring an unwrapped toy to benefit a New Hampshire family in need.
By the time Marines from the Toys for Tots program arrived to pick up the donated toys, they were amazed by the amount collected.
"This is a tremendous help. It shows the whole community that even some 7-year-old children can come up with the gift of giving," Gunnery Sgt. Vincent Donahue said.
As for the parents of the girls who came up with the idea, said, “This is a great tradition, they hope to continue.”
