KEENE, NH- After much debate on its purpose, on Tuesday Keene Police brought their new Special Mission Rescue Vehicle onto the lot at 400 Maralboro Street adding it to the department’s fleet.
According to a press release sent out by Police Chief Kenneth Meola the “Bear Cat “was actually accepted by the department on Friday November 16th after members of the department received extensive training from Lenco Industries representatives, the vehicle was then delivered to a private contractor so it could be outfitted with a Police radio.
The vehicle will now remain on site so department personnel may train on it, until the need arises where its services such as responding to hazardous or suspicious packages, emergency rescues and armed suspects.
Funding for the “Bearcat” was made possible by a grant of $ 285,933 from the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department of Safety.
