CHESTERFIELD NH- A Homeless man has was arrested for abandoning his 2 year old who was found by Police at a nearby grocery store, while he slept intoxicated under a bridge connecting New Hampshire and Vermont.
On Wednesday afternoon Chesterfield Police responded to reports of a child found at the edge of Route 9 with no adult nearby. According to police, the child was capable of walking but not of speaking. As a result, the New Hampshire Division for Children, Youth and Families were contacted to take custody of the child. Upon a search of the surrounding area police found 35 year old Lonnie J. Place passed out and intoxicated under a nearby bridge. Place told police he had been watching his daughter when he passed out, police then confirmed that he actually meant the young boy. Place was then arrested and charged with resisting arrest, endangering the welfare of a child, possession of a controlled substance and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container.
Place is currently being held in lieu of $2,000.00 cash bail at the Cheshire County House of Corrections.
