Scotty McCreery graduates after CMT Music Awards

Scotty McCreery didn't stick around to celebrate after winning a CMT Music Award on Wednesday - the country singer hopped on a plane to his high school graduation.

The former "American Idol" winner scooped the breakthrough video of 2012 for "The Trouble with Girls" at the Nashville prizegiving but he had no time for the afterparties.

Instead the 18 year old caught a late-night flight to his native North Carolina to pick up his diploma from North Garner High School at the Raleigh Convention Center the following morning.

McCreery took to Twitter to share his excitement about the two accomplishments, writing, "I've enjoyed these last 4 years...  wouldn't trade any of them for the world. It's been a fun 24 hours for sure!"

The star will attend North Carolina State University in the autumn.
