Kanye West leads BET award nominations

Kanye West is set for a big night at the 2012 BET Awards in July after scoring seven nominations on Tuesday.

The rapper is up for six awards thanks to his collaborative album with Jay-Z, "Watch The Throne," and he's also in the running for Video Director of the Year.

Jay-Z's wife Beyonce is also looking forward to the prize ceremony after landing six nods, including two for Video of the Year ("Love on Top" and "Countdown"), and her husband is up for five - all for "Watch The Throne."

Other multiple nominees include Chris Brown, Lil Wayne and Drake.

Brown, Bruno Mars, Miguel, Trey Songz and Usher will battle it out for Best Male R&B Artist, while Beyonce faces a challenge from Marsha Ambrosius, Mary J. Blige, Melanie Fiona and Rihanna for Best Female R&B Artist.

In other major categories, A$AP Rocky, Big Sean, Diggy, Future and Meek Mill will compete for the New Artist crown and  Brianna Perry, her mentor Trina, Nicki Minaj and Diamond will battle for Best Female Rap Artist.

Minaj and Brown have already been confirmed to perform at the ceremony in Los Angeles, and Maze featuring Frankie Beverly will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The 2012 BET Awards will be handed out at the Shrine Auditorium on July 1. Actor Samuel L. Jackson will host the ceremony.
